She was lucky to have those 5+ years with a loving owner.

I very much enjoyed this post about chafing dish cookery. I am just re-reading Dracula, and in the beginning Jonathan Harker, a young bachelor lawyer, is journeying to Hungary. With a connoisseur's taste he describes (exotic for London) dishes like chicken paprikash and impletata (stuffed eggplant), making notes to obtain the recipes. Since Dracula came out in 1897, this exactly coincides with the attitudes that you describe here.
--JimParnassushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08958901307538141468noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8778626287556834261.post-84553363358750973252016-01-14T12:29:45.480-08:002016-01-14T12:29:45.480-08:00I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about Petuni...I'm so sorry to hear the sad news about Petunia.Pamelahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04609066727843760638noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8778626287556834261.post-85077011100399666782016-01-12T08:53:22.485-08:002016-01-12T08:53:22.485-08:00So sorry to read about Petunia, Deana. We served everything in them, from crab dip to meatballs. We all owned one. When my kids were little, I had to buy a smaller one as my youngest's favorite meal was beef fondue. So, I've had my share, but don't own one now. Yours is gorgeous!
Great post, always love your photos and learn so much. Yesterday I was reading through one of my vintage cookbooks (Gourmet, circa 1950s) and there was an entire section devoted to chaffing dish cooking! And if memory serves me correctly, I actually think I might have an old chaffing dish tucked away somewhere (a flea market find!), that is, if we didn't lose it in our last move. Your dish is beautiful, I particularly love the use of grapes. And I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your sweet dog. Not a dog at all, I'm sure, but a member of the family. May she rest in peace. xoxoFaith (An Edible Mosaic)http://www.anediblemosaic.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8778626287556834261.post-66353440998252602982016-01-08T06:33:38.863-08:002016-01-08T06:33:38.863-08:00oh no! i'm so sorry about your Petunia. So gla...oh no! i'm so sorry about your Petunia. So glad it came quickly and that you were able to be with her.
I never knew chafing dishes were all the rage 100 years ago -thats fascinating but makes sense. You always hear about bachelors 'renting a room' but they never had a kitchen. I figured they always ate out but who does that for every meal, even in NYC!
I had a friend in college who would have fabulous dinner parties IN HER DORM ROOM. We always joked she should write a cookbook. of course she had a microwave (this was the 90s) but with just a microwave, a toaster, and a mini fridge full dinners of fresh ingredients were organized. It made the cafeteria look barbaric! My sophmore year of college I didn't have a meal plan and made meals in my dorm room as well with the same microwave and toaster. It wasn't really so bad but I wouldn't give up my full kitchen for the world now! xoArchitectDesign™https://www.blogger.com/profile/01481754380363676771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8778626287556834261.post-74190775524744717462016-01-08T02:28:24.059-08:002016-01-08T02:28:24.059-08:00Deanna I am so so sorry about Petunia.
